1. Recognise the door as fire-rated

2. Inspect gaps and seals
Use a Gap Gauge to ensure the gap between the door and the frame is between 2mm and 4mm. Inspect the condition of the intumescent seals, as they play a crucial role in stopping the spread of smoke and fire through the gaps.
3. Examine the hinges
Ensure that the fire door is fitted with at least 3 hinges, with intact screws and a CE marking. Look for a Certifire logo on the hinge to confirm it is fire-rated.
4. Verify the door closer
Check that the door closer is not damaged and that it latches the door shut from any position. A properly functioning door closer is essential for ensuring the effectiveness of the intumescent seals.
5. Ensure the fire door is clearly marked
All fire doors should have clear signage indicating their purpose. Depending on the type of door holder or closer fitted, appropriate signs should be displayed to ensure the doors are used correctly.
